One of the desserts that many people love to try at home is pies. There are so many types of pies you can make without having to buy one from the store. Today, I’m bringing you the apple pie with cardamom. This is one of those recipes that not only fills your home with an incredible aroma but also brings a mix of flavors that make you feel right at home. This recipe is an improved version of the classic apple pie, thanks to the addition of cardamom, a spice that gives it a special warm and citrusy touch.
Even though apple pie is a classic European dessert, especially popular in England and France, cardamom adds an exotic twist. This spice is common in Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine and has been valued for centuries for its unique aroma and flavor. Besides its delicious taste, cardamom has digestive and antioxidant properties. So, this pie is not only delicious but also a bit healthy!
Why is it so special?
You can use different types of apples depending on your preference. On one hand, Granny Smith apples are perfect if you like a more tart flavor, while Fuji or Gala apples add a natural sweetness that perfectly complements the cardamom. You can try different types to see which one suits your taste best. This pie is perfect for family gatherings and parties, not just because of its flavor, but also because of how good it looks. The mix of spices and the crispy texture of the crust make it irresistible to anyone.
If you feel inspired to try this recipe at home, here is my favorite recipe for apple pie with cardamom. Enjoy!

For the Apple Pie with Cardamom
Instructions
-
Prepare the Filling
First, I mix the apple slices with brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour in a large bowl. I let this sit while I prepare the crust.
-
Prepare the Crust
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out one sheet of pie crust and fit it into a pie dish, ensuring it covers the sides.
-
Add the Filling
Pour the apple mixture into the crust-lined pie dish, spreading it evenly. Dot the filling with butter pieces.
-
Cover with Crust
Place the second sheet of pie crust over the filling. Press the edges to seal and cut a few small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
-
Egg Wash
Using a brush, apply the beaten egg over the top crust for a golden, shiny finish.
-
Bake
Bake the pie for 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
-
Cool
Let the pie cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
